Yet another trip to Bangkok

Yet another trip to Bangkok. My third this year. I have posted on the 1st trip but not the second because we went to too many places during the second trip and i was really lazy. Haha.. Back to the trip that i just went. It was a short 4 days 3 nights trip. I went with my best buddy Cat..

A picture of her with her second fave cartoon character, Spongebob Squarepants. Her first was Patrick Star.

The hotel we stayed in was Samran Place. A very basic no frills hotel. But the service staff was friendly & polite. It wasn't too difficult to catch a cab there. Plus the security guy was a friendly chap who would flag your cab for you. The most important thing was that the hotel doesn't have a creepy feel and the room is bright! & it cost only S$38/rm/nite with breakfast!

The toilet was clean and had a bathtub. However there wasn't any hairdryer (You can request for it). They have Star Movie, which was good enough for both of us. Haha.. They have ESPN & BBC too! Plus some other channels which i can't remember.

For Breakfast we were given choices of Asian or American sets. I had the American breakfast with 2 toast, scramble eggs, sausage & ham (yes singular cos there was only 1 of each) & pineapple juice (to be honest it's quite disgusting). You can have coffee or tea.

Dinner at Manhatten Fish Market at Central World. I'm not too sure why the waitress was doing that but i supposed she was melting the chesse on top of the prawns.

We had the seafood platter. It consist of fried fish with lemon butter sauce, fried calamari, fried oysters, grilled prawns, fries and garlic fried rice. Yummy! We spent about 500baht on that dinner with drinks.

I solemnly swear to reduce, reuse & recycle!

Tip: If you aren't carrying a haversack, bring along a big tote bag to put all your purchases. It is enviromentally friendly too!

We had our last lunch at Black Canyon. We weren't too happy with the food. I ordered the prawn tomyam soup with rice noodles. There were so much onions in it that it tasted more like sour onion soup. Quite disgusting really..

Cat ordered Thai green curry.. She was even more upset than me. The curry was very watery & there were these weird smelling leaves. Her verdict? "The worst green curry i ever had"

Luckily the desert save the day. We ordered red rubies. The waterchestnuts inside was fresh and crunchy.

Oh & a little info about Vat Refund. You need to spend at least 2000 baht a day and at least 5000 baht throughout your trip to qualify for refund. Daily if you spend more than 2000 you'll need to register for refund. For example if you spend 2000 baht in Zen, you need to bring your receipt to the refund counter in the store to register. They'll give you a letter, which you'll need to present to the refund counter in the airport, together with your other refund letters, before you check in. & the best part... You gotta show your purchases. All of it.

One of the nicest BBQ

Have you ever been to a BBQ when you went home feeling Hot, Sticky, Smelly & Hungry? You'll probably have 2 franks (top end burnt and bottom end uncooked), 1 chicken wing (outside burnt and inside bloody) and 1 chicken fillet (coated with honey and lots of soot). Really... This is what happen to most of the BBQ i've attended during school days. Subsequently the BBQs i attend as i grow older gets better. And i was invited to one of the nicest last week. It was a hands-free BBQ (meaning we dun have to cooked the food ourselves. Thanks to our gracious host.) How great is that! We just sat at the table and wait to be served. This really is a contrast to the past BBQs when people just pinch the food you are cooking.

One of my fave food. Big juicy corn slightly burnt and coated with butter. Ooh the smell of the butter and the sweetness of the corn!

Crispy BBQ youtiao dipped in homemade rojak sauce.

The Ultimate Pork Ribs! Comparable to Tony Romas. Really.. You only have to taste it.

Prawns. Fresh & succulent! Marinated in some special sauce.

Fresh fish, together with sweet sauce and chili

Purple sweet potato from Japan.
Homemade chicken patties
Crayfish.. So chewy and fresh.
Another batch of prawns marinated differently.
Roasted honey pineapple. Warm and sweet and has a hint of coconut taste.
I love the chicken wings!
The big otahs
Chicken franks
Prawn crackers with Ah Zar. Honestly how many of you have tried this b4?

Homemade mango pudding with really sweet mango cubes.

My iPhone!

Love it....

This is coming from a girl who does not own a single Apple product. I'm never a fan of apple and i always find iTunes a tad troublesome. I'm a strictly drag-and-put-file kind of person. What's with all the syncing? And further more you can only sync with one computer. After owning the iPhone for more than a month, i say it is a small price to pay for such a wonderful phone.

The main reasons why i love it (there are other frills which i'm too lazy to include)
1) User-friendly

After you get pass the hacking and jailbreaking (even this can be done within 10 mins), the rest is a breeze. From messaging to wifi, everything is just a tap away. This is especially good for I.T. not-so-savy people like me. hehe

2) Touch screen interface

You navigate by sliding your finger and tapping to enter.

3) Everything under the sun can be added

Just to name a few, you can have youtube, msn, icq (are there people still using icq?), weather, stocks, convertor, maps & location (it can pinpoint where your location is and the distance & time needed to travel to the another location), games (tons of it), wall papers and themes, even screen shots & etc...

4) iPod

You can listen to music, watch videos and access to iTunes. Sound & video quality is good too!

5) Price

It is relatively inexpensive. 399USD for 8G, 499 USD for 16G (excluding taxes). I've got mine (8G) for S$597.

However things i don't like about it are

1) Contacts

I have a hard time adding contacts. I've installed iSim but it doesn't work (it is supposed to transfer all your contacts from the sim card into the phone, but me being so suay, can't seem to get it work). Once you have the contacts in, you need to key in 2 phone numbers, with +65 and without (this is so that it can read the caller and the sender for messages.)

2) Where to repair?

I have no idea where to send this phone to if it spoils.

3) Typing

I must put in full concentration when i type. As it is touch screen, i often tab on the neighbouring letters. Annoying! I guess you need time to get use to it.
